Built in 1919, Helsinki Central Railway Station is the central railway station of Helsinki, the capital of Finland. It is a landmark in Helsinki and a transportation hub for the Greater Helsinki region. The station has a daily passenger flow of up to 200,000 people and is the busiest station in Finland.
The railway station is mainly made of Finnish granite material. It is unique in the bell tower on both sides of the main entrance and two pairs of statues. The statues hold the spherical lights that are lit at night.
The train station has a total of 19 months. The No. 1 - 3 platform is located on the east side and serves local trains on the Tikkurila route. The platform No. 4-11 is located in the station building and mainly provides long-distance train services. Trains departing from the 5th-10th platform travel mainly via Tikkurila to Tampere, St. Petersburg and other parts of northeastern Finland. The 11th and 12th platforms provide services for express trains passing through Espoo to Turku. The 12th-19th platform is located on the west side of the train station building and serves trains on the Leppävaara and Kehärata routes.
Helsinki Central Railway Station is the transportation hub of Finland. There are many local bus stops on the west and east side of the main building. The underground of the main building of the train station is the Asematunneli shopping centre, which leads to the Helsinki Central Railway Station underground station. Most of the tram routes in Helsinki pass through the train station. To get to the central bus in Helsinki, take the train station and head west for 400 metres.
There is a car park at Helsinki Central Station, which is open daily from 6am to midnight. There is also a bicycle parking service in the Asema-aukio area on the west side of the train station.
The services and facilities in the station include: bathroom, maternal and child room, self-service luggage storage cabinet (up to four days), restaurant, vending machine, ATM, bank, foreign currency exchange point, clothing store, pharmacy and so on.
