La Spezia Centrale

The station was built in 1887 and is an important hub for regional passenger transport. La Spezia has a large port, but the cargo is mainly transported through another train station in the city. La Spezia Centrale leads to Piazza Medaglie d'Oro, near the historic centre, not far from the Museo Nazionale Trasporti (National Transport Museum), a museum dedicated to railway travel.

There are four platforms at La Spezia Station. This is one of the destinations of the Parma-La Spezia line and a stop on the Genoa-Pisa line. The latter includes staying in five villages in the Cinque Terre. Some trains to La Spezia stop at each town in the Cinque Terre on the way to Genoa, while other trains stop at one or two, so be sure to check your ticket before boarding.

La Spezia Centrale offers luggage storage facilities, tourist information and some places to shop or dine. The passengers at the station are only one floor, so everything is easier to find.

Just outside the station, there are several bus stops that offer a variety of services in La Spezia and other towns in the area.

Toulon

La Spezia (UK: , US: or , Italian: [la ˈspɛttsja] ; A Spèza in the local Spezzino dialect) is the capital city of the province of La Spezia and is located at the head of the Gulf of La Spezia in the southern part of the Liguria region of Italy. La Spezia is the second largest city in the Liguria region, just after Genoa. Located roughly midway between Genoa and Pisa, on the Ligurian Sea, it is one of the main Italian military and commercial harbours and a major Italian Navy base. A significant railway junction, it is notable for its museums, for the Palio del Golfo rowing race, and for railway and boat links with the Cinque Terre.

Toulon (UK: , US: , French: [tulɔ̃]; Provençal: Tolon (classical norm), Touloun (Mistralian norm), pronounced [tuˈlun]) is a city in southern France and a large port on the Mediterranean coast, with a major French naval base. Located in the Provence-Alpes-Côte d'Azur region, Toulon is the capital of the Var department. The Commune of Toulon has a population of 165,514 people (2009), making it France's 15th-largest city. It is the centre of an urban area with 559,421 inhabitants (2008), the ninth largest in France. Toulon is the fourth-largest French city on the Mediterranean coast after Marseille, Nice and Montpellier. Toulon is an important centre for naval construction, fishing, wine making, and the manufacture of aeronautical equipment, armaments, maps, paper, tobacco, printing, shoes, and electronic equipment. The military port of Toulon is the major naval centre on France's Mediterranean coast, home of the French aircraft carrier Charles de Gaulle and her battle group. The French Mediterranean Fleet is based in Toulon.
